Annual awards for journalists in the area of child protection in Kosovo

The Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF, provided the annual awards for journalists in the area of child protection in Kosovo. Before opening of the ceremony, Donjeta Kelmendi on behalf of KOMF condemned the killing of the child in the municipality of Decan and appealed towards the institutions to take all necessary measures to put justice in place.
“On behalf of KOMF we express condolences to the family for the loss of their child. KOMF condemns the killing of an innocent child, and asks the law enforcement and justice institutions to take all the measures to put the justice in place”.
The event was opened by Mrs. Blerta Perolli Shehu. “Ensuring the rights of children through advocacy to the highest institutions levels but also in the society is the mission of the Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF. In this regard an important role played the media, which since three years are a loyal partner in broadcasting KOMF messages.”, she stated.
Mr. Imer Mushkolaj thanked KOMF-for rewarding journalists who work in the social field. Mr. Mushkolaj also encouraged journalists to write as many articles and pertaining to the protection of children’s rights.
After the evaluation of the stories in the competition, the jury composed from three-members (psychologists Englantina Kraja – Bardhi and journalists Evliana Berani and Imer Mushkolaj ) divided three equal awards.
Journalist Alban Selimi was awarded for the article titled “Vice consul risked the live of the child with leukemia,” published in the daily national newspaper “Zeri”. The award was handed by the KOMF’s president Mrs. Perolli Shehu.
Journalist Vehbi Kajtazi was awarded for writing the article titled “Children in the hands of a killer and a drug dealer”, published in the daily national newspaper “Koha Ditore”. The award was handed by Mrs. Valbona Qitaku – KOMF member.
Journalist Naim Sadiku was awarded for the TV report entitled “In foreign hands” broadcasted in the national TV “Koha Vision”. The the award was handed by Mrs. Dafina Zuna Hoxha, representative of UNICEF.
KOMF thanks all the media representatives and journalists who have continuously proved their willingness to cooperate in the name of protection of children’s rights.
